NOTE: This is a revision of the President's Message found in the the June, 2009 Newsletter.

Revised June 3

Spring has sprung and summer is almost here.  That means that the August semi- annual Hale Family Reunion is fast approaching.

In April Fred Hale contacted the Woodman Institute Museum in Dover, NH to start setting up our next Hale Family reunion.  He has asked for the weekend of August 21, 22 & 23 for the meeting with the 22nd as the meeting date.  He has since left the arrangements for the balance of the session to me for finalization.

I have contacted Mr. Thom Hindle of the museum to set the meeting for Saturday morning the 22nd at 10:00 AM at the Keefe House, which is part of the several Museum properties.

The Museum is located at 182 Central Street and can be reached from Route 16 off exit 8, which enters Silver Street that ends at Central Street.  At the light on Central Street take your right and the museum is about 4 buildings on your right.  The meeting will be held at the Keefe House that is just around the corner from the Museum at 15 Summer Street.  I am not sure just what the parking situation may be at the Keefe House.

I am scheduling the meeting for approximately 10:00 AM to allow time for myself from Conway as well as members from Maine, Massachusetts and possibly Connecticut time to get there.   Will those planning to attend please drop a line, E-mail or phone me so I can make sure we will have room enough?

There will be a short meeting that I expect should take from ½ hour to ¾ of an hour for election of the officers for the coming term and reports from the Secretary/Treasurer and any other business that may be brought up.  The nominated slate is as follows and the terms are for two years; President - Kenneth Hale, Vice President is open and we are looking for someone, Secretary/Treasurer - Fred Hale and I will take Member-at-Large unless someone will volunteer.

After the meeting we will be given a tour of the Keefe House and the Woodman Institute Museum’ the Pine Hill Cemetery close to the museum as well as the Senator John Parker Hale House and the 1675 Garrison Colonial House.  Mr. Hindle suggests the tour may take about 1 to 1 ½ hours.  After the tour of the Museum properties we will have a box lunch at the Keefe House.

There are several cemeteries in the area where Hale Family members are buried.  There is one in Barrington, which is quite close with nearly all graves being members of the Hale Family.  I visited there several years ago quite by accident and most of the sites I saw were in my ancestral line.  There is also the cemetery in Portsmouth where Major Samuel Hale is buried as well as several other Hale related gravesites.  Kenneth Hale, our Vice President who lives in Portsmouth will look into these for us and have some maps and directions ready for us at the meeting.

There is also the William Hale House near the city hall, it is owned by the St. Thomas Church and offers some wonderful architectural feature.   Ken said that this would be better visited in the afternoon if the members wanted to visit there; he said he would look into that for us.

The information I have at this time as far as places for overnights are as follows:  The Days Inn Motel, which is in the downtown within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops and gift shops.  Not far from the museum is the Silver Street Inn, which is a bed and breakfast that might accommodate a small group but not within close walking distance to any places to eat.  There are some others listed, Hampton Inn, Comfort Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Microtel Inns & Suites in case anyone wishes to come for a weekend.  Mr. Hindle said he would try and get some prices for us, so if you plan to come and stay over, please let me know and I will contact him for that information for you.

Hoping to see many of you there.  Again my E-mail addresses are art1166@localnet.com and my secondary address is art_hale@yahoo.com (don’t forget the under bar _ between art & hale), my phone is 603-447-2729, and mail is P. O. BOX 1166 Conway, N. H. 03818.

Retiring President

When Fred made up the newsletters some of my message was omitted so I am sending this along.  I do not know whether there will be another newsletter before the meeting or not so I will add a bit more information here.  Mr. Hindle has been very helpful to me with information about the locations of museum and of the Keefe House. He has also told me he will be happy to get prices and information for motel/hotel rooms if any member wants to stay over, so if you will let me know I will get that information and forward it to you.  He will also help in getting orders placed for our lunches after the tour.  I am planning on placing lunch orders following the meeting and prior to the tour so that we can have lunches ready when we get back.  After lunch members can continue the tour to visit the William Hale House and the other cemeteries if they wish.   I am looking forward to meeting a lot of you there, it should be quite interesting to see the historic homes and grave sites of some of our ancestors.
